Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

Mark 28:19-20

Jesus said "I will build my church" on Peters confession that Jesus was "the Christ, the son of the living God". (Mathew 16:18) Peter was given the keys to the kingdom of Heaven (Mathew 16:19) and later to the other apostles (Mathew 18:18). When Jesus called the people to Him with his Apostles (Mark 8:34) ,"He said unto them, verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power"  (Mark 9:1). Jesus told the apostles to wait in Jerusalem for the promise from the Father (Acts 1:4-5) .

The apostles received the promise in Acts 2:1-4 and Peter preached the first gospel sermon. He condemned these Jews for crucifying Jesus (Acts 2:23). They knew that they had committed a great sin and ask Peter "what shall we do?" Peter answered "repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ (ie by his authority) for the remission of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Acts 2:38). About 3000 responded (Acts 2: 41) and the Lord added them to the Church (Acts 2:47). Christ's church was then established. The Apostles were to go to the entire world and "preach the gospel to every creature. "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved but he that believeth not shall be damned" (Mark 16:15-16), They were to baptize them in by the authority of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost There was a great persecution against the Church at Jerusalem and they were all scattered abroad (Acts 8:1). They that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word (Acts 8:4). This is the commission of the Church and all Christians today. The book of Acts tells us how the Apostles established congregations of the Lord’s church and they taught the same doctrine, under the same name, (Jesus) by inspiration of God (2 Tim 3:15-16), which is the same doctrine we must uphold today. Romans 10:17 tells us that "faith cometh by hearing, hearing by the word of God", Romans 14:23 tells us that " whatsoever is not of faith is sin.) We must conclude that any worship not of the word is in vain. Jesus said "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines, the commandments of men" (Mathew15:9) When the Apostle Paul was on the road to Damascus, Jesus himself gave him the commission to bring the word to the Gentiles (Acts 26:16-18.) Peter and the rest of the Apostles were to teach the Jews (Galatians 2:9). The church had its problems then with false teachers just as we do today (Acts 15:1-32). We are "to study to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim 2:15). We are to fervently study God’s Holy word to be sure we are taught the truth ( Acts 17:11). This gives us the knowledge to teach others as Paul commands in 2 Tim 2:2. This will we do, GOD willing.
